Material Girls

Patchwork & Quilting Exhibition

7-8 June 2008

Coonamble Shire Library

10am - 4pm

The Material Girls Patchwork group celebrates our 10th anniversary!

For the last 10 years, countless dozens of  cups of tea and many kilometres have been travelled between homes in the Coonamble district to produce an array of unique quilts, stitcheries and patchwork items.  Many of these have been made for people in need in our community, or turned into money raised for charities by raffling our quilts.

Consequently,  the Material Girls will be looking at the older as well as more recent works of some of our past members at our exhibition this year.  A couple of these ex-members have even gone on to create entire businesses from what was originally ”just a hobby”.

Admission to the exhibition is a mere $3 per person, which gives you a chance at a lucky door prize, voting rights for the Viewer's Choice Award not to mention hours of visual delights.  A brand new beautiful scrappy queen-sized quilt will be raffled with all profits going to local charities and organizations.  There’ll even be a small stall selling patchwork so you can create a masterpiece of your own after being inspired by your surroundings at the quilt show.

This year we introduce the “Hangers’ Prize”; an award for skilled workmanship voted by the “Material Girls” and chosen from all the quilts on display.

Material Obsession from Hunters Hill, Weigela Designs from Warren have very generously donated prizes in 2008, and we thank them most sincerely for their support.  Maelyn Cooper of Gilgandra has again donated her time to quilt our raffle quilt.

So, whether it’s raining buckets, cold and windy, or gorgeous sunny winter days, you will find a very warm welcome at our annual patchwork exhibition, in the Coonamble Library, 10am to 4pm Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June only.
