Text Box: The Coonamble Shire Tourism newsletter is produced by  Coonamble Shire Council to involve community and industry in the development of tourism in the shire.   The Tourism Development Manager will provide the secretariat, distribute a monthly newsletter and form teams and  team leaders as required for specific projects  Forthcoming projects include New Coonamble Pad Maps, Coonamble Heritage Brochure, Quambone promotional material, and a new Coonamble Shire brochure. 21/12– The Plaza Theatre is screening ‘Donald Duck Goes West’ for the Christmas Holidays.
30 years ago– December1967:
Shire President P.H. Cullen elected for 10th term in office
Clergy to seek help of Prime Minister Holt to assist the dozens of Aboriginals who have been forced to move to the Castlereagh Riverbed.  Recent survey show 67 Aboriginals are living in the soon to be closed camp site and 186 are living in town
Town saddened by death of prominent townsman Mr Bede Mooy. As he did every night Mr Mooy was checking the shop whilst his wife waited in the car.  When he did not return she found him suffering a heart attack.  Mt Mooy was a former Mayor and Chair of the Warrumbungle National park Trust.  For over 40 years he has also been the manager of Messrs Hermann and Co Pty Ltd,  Coonambles oldest retail trading store.
50 years ago— December 1957:
Coonamble Sydney airfares will rise if a proposed takeover of Butler Air Transport  by Ansett goes ahead.  Currently you can fly to Sydney via Tooraweenah in one and a half hours.  Phone A.R. Henderson for bookings on 566 or after hours on 308
Council has voted to proceed with a public library for Coonamble and has told it will be costly as a minimum of 6000 books will be needed to start.
