Text Box: Welcome to the July edition. Almost too much to fit in only four pages this month. June has been busy with the rain stopping just in time for the Coonamble Rodeo and a bumper weekend. We also hosted a delegation from our sister council in Sydney, Campbelltown City Council. New forecasts issued last week by the Tourism Forecasting Committee (TFC) indicate that the contribution of tourism to the Australian economy is forecast to increase from $84 billion in 2006 to just over $100 billion in 2016 in real terms, underpinned mainly by growth in inbound tourism. For more details click here We welcome Marguerite Starr as the new Executive officer at the two eight two eight project in Gulargambone and farewell Marty and Debbie Power at the Commerical Hotel. I was at the Quambone Polocrosse Carnival on the weekend and the new shed received a fine christening. The facilities are so good that Coonamble will now hold their Polocrosse Carnival at Quambone this weekend ! The Moorambilla Festival is set to bring the town alive with the sound of singing in September with the focus this year on ‘Songs in the Key of She’. The festival coincides with the Annual Coonamble Arts Alive Exhibition Text Box: and Coonamble will also be hosting the AQHA Campdraft Super Challenge so it’ll be a bumper weekend for the town. Coonamble has been chosen to host the 2008 NSW Women’s Gathering which will bring hundreds of women to town for 3 days. Click here for more information. The 2006 Census results have just been released and there are some surprising statistics as well as the latest population numbers. Did you know there are more females than males in Coonamble? See page 2 for details. The State Government is funding construction of a Visitor centre on the former Baradine RSL club site as part of a re-adjustment package it announced after the Brigalow Belt decision and the closure of timber mills in central NSW. The Baradine Progress Association says the centre and a number of other tourism ventures, including forest drives and bird watching adventures, could inject much needed money into the area. Ausindustry has just extended the deadline for applications to the Australian Tourism Development Program
