Text Box: Coonamble Shire finally has a tourism logo after a period of drafting and public consultation. At the 8th February meeting of Coonamble Shire Council the new logo for the shire was discussed and the design featured below was confirmed. The logo reflects the patchwork of a farming landscape beneath the mountain ranges of the Warumbungles. The bull represents the farming community with a centre patch of flames to represent the fires of 1929. The emu represents the indigenous community. The Galah and Ibis are the most prominent bird life that reside in their respective towns of Gulargambone and Quambone. The Ibis is positioned against a water landscape which depicts the Macquarie Marshes. There were a number of options suggested to replace the existing tagline but there was overwhelming support for the retention of the existing tagline ‘from the Mountains to the Marshes’.
Text Box: The first use of the new tourism logo will be on ‘Welcome to Coonamble Shire’ signs that will replace the existing signs at six major entry points to the shire. Council debated the design the of signs at their meeting in February and requested that the Coonamble Shire Council logo be included. Quotes have been requested from four signwriting businesses and the successful company will commence work shortly. The opportunity to use Gulargambone Cypress in the frames for the signs is also being considered and a meeting has been held with the mill. New entry signs for Coonamble, Gulargambone & Quambone are also planned and a draft of what the Quambone sign may look like is pictured to the left. These signs will replace the existing ‘black on white’ signs indicating population and elevation as well as the ‘Ride the Spirit’ sign as there is currently considerable duplication with some approaches having up to three entry signs.
Quotes have also been requested for construction of the Smith Park Tourist Bay signs and there will be the opportunity for businesses to purchase additional advertising. Details and a prospectus will be released in the next bulletin.

One of the key elements of a successful brand for a region is the support of the community for that brand.  Whilst we came very close to selecting a more descriptive statement, having opened the process to the public we needed to respect the decision of those involved in the process.

A style guide for the use of the logo is being prepared and the first use will be on the new shire entry signs and pop up banners. The public's perception of Coonamble, Gulargambone & Quambone as a tourism destination is affected by every item they see - every sign, every brochure, every sticker and souvenir. That's why it's important to always use our brand identity properly. The style guidelines will include directions for the use of the logo, the  logotype, color. palettes, and typography.

If you have any questions about the use of the new logo or the process please let me know by emailing or call (02) 6827 1936

The Great Inland Way links Cairns with Sydney via Dubbo and is one of several State and National routes connecting Queensland with New South Wales and Victoria. The Great Inland Way is a true “inland touring route” and passes through Coonamble.  Compared to other touring highways, the route is highly destination driven and has a good mix of high profile regional attractions.  The route is currently over 2400km making it one of the longest in Australia !  The ‘wanderers’ form the largest market segment for this route.  At the AGM of the Great Inland Way Promotions Group in December 2005 a new Business and marketing plan were adopted and the route committee was split into three chapters (Northern, Central and Southern) with the tourism managers from Charters Towers, Roma/Miles and Coonamble respectively appointed as interim chapter chairs.  Significant resources will be directed towards product development, a new theme and brand, and marketing of the route into the Southern States.  For more information visit the web site at  www.greatinlandway.org.au  or email here.
