Text Box: The Coonamble Rodeo & Campdraft Committee agreed at their meeting on 7th March to trial a ‘tent-city’ at the 2006 event. 'Tent City' is an temporary on-site accommodation facility. They create accommodation 'villages'. Regular users of Tent City include the National Country Music Muster at Gympie, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Woodford Folk Festival and Ulysses Club Inc. as well as events right around Australia. The annual Rodeo and Campdraft in Coonamble has become so popular that accommodation is always difficult to find and motels are usually booked out well in advance. Not only will ‘Tent City’ provide more accommodation for visitors but being able to stay on-site at the rodeo will be a memorable experience. With a zippered door, shady awning and three large screened windows, the tents are airy and light. They are fully floored and carpeted for extra comfort and each tent is fitted with an internal light and camp-style beds with mattresses.

There are a range of simple things that people can do to assist Coonamble shire to grow and maintain a tourism industry.  One of our biggest assets is the people who live here and word of mouth is invaluable. If visitors leave here with a positive experience they will tell others.  Providing directions or helping out a lost tourist really does make a difference.  We are slowly building up services and resources at the Coonamble Visitors Centre and if you think we are missing something please let us know.

If you are thinking of expanding your business into tourism there are some excellent resources available from the Tourism NSW Corporate web site and these can be accessed here.    Or contact the Tourism Development Manager or (02) 6827 1936 or email steven@coonambleshire.nsw.gov.au
