The
"Whittonbri" garden began in 1980, after we moved into our
renovated house (circa 1930). All previous garden had died, except 3 Cedar
trees and 2 Oleanders. Plans
were drawn for sweeping lawns, trees and shrubs. I sought advice
from experienced gardeners of the district as to varieties that would suit
the climate and soil. As a result the plantings are predominantly native
shrubs and trees such as a variety of bottlebrush, grevilleas and
eucalypts. In addition, there are exotic trees, geraniums, perennials,
roses and May bush in mass plantings. The
soil is sandy loam and the garden watered from a dam filled by
artesian water. The garden has grown in size over the years as the need arose
for swimming, cricket, football and entertaining. It is an "easy
care" and low maintenance garden for a very busy family. Directions: 4 kms along the Baradine Road, turn left to Pilliga. Travel 4 kms and turn left onto the Billeroy Road. Travel 15 kms. Turn left at the double white gates marked "Whittonbri". Refreshments available |
